If time permits, a selection of Petrarch’s poetry will be read. Texts are available on this site

When we study the Decameron, read the section on "Contemporary and Modern Criticism" (pp. 151-331) along with the text of the short stories — especially the article "Boccaccio and Pasolini." We will show in class the movie The Decameron, directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini along with the reading of the text. Warning: Pasolini’s movie is rated R (or NC according to old standards); students who have reservations may leave when the movie is being shown.
